A cultural trip to Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan will take you on a journey through the rich history and vibrant traditions of these three countries. You will have the opportunity to explore ancient monasteries, castles, and fortresses, as well as experience the unique architecture and art of each country.

In Azerbaijan, you will visit the Old City of Baku and the medieval city of Sheki, and try traditional Azerbaijani dishes like plov and dolma. In Georgia, you will visit capital Tbilisi and the cave city of Vardzia, sample delicious traditional dishes like khinkali and khachapuri, and attend a traditional Georgian dance performance. In Armenia, you will visit the medieval city of Echmiadzin and the ancient temple of Garni, and try traditional Armenian dishes like dolma and lavash. All three countries are known for their beautiful natural landscapes, snow-capped mountains, lush forests, and picturesque lakes and rivers.

The tour begins as you arrive in Baku, the bustling capital of Azerbaijan. After a long flight, you’ll be greeted by our friendly tour representative and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to freshen up and settle in, as the adventure is just beginning.

Embark on a city tour of Baku, delving into the rich history and culture of this fascinating city. From the medieval Maiden’s Tower to the modern Flame Towers, you’ll see the best of Baku’s past and present. Take in the sights, sounds and flavors of this unique city, as you discover its hidden gems and famous landmarks.

After a memorable time in Baku, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to Sheki, a charming town in the northwest of Azerbaijan. Known for its traditional architecture and rich culture, Sheki is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit. You’ll explore the town, taking in the sights and sounds of the local area, and learn about the rich history and customs of the region. From the traditional bazaar to the historic caravanserais, there’s so much to see and experience in Sheki.

The next day, you’ll continue your journey, crossing the border of Georgia, driving from Sheki to Dedoplistskaro, where you’ll visit the Eagle Canyon for a birdwatching tour. The canyon is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to a wide variety of species, and the tour will give you the chance to see some of the most beautiful and rare birds in the region. Afterwards, you’ll experience a Georgian cuisine masterclass in the evening, learning about the traditional dishes and flavors of Georgia and how to prepare them.

Today you’ll drive from Dedoplistskaro to Davit Gareji complex, a rock-hewn Georgian Orthodox monastery located in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia. The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its well-preserved frescoes and beautiful surroundings. You’ll take a short hike to explore the complex and take in the stunning views of the surrounding area. Afterwards, you’ll drive to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and prepare for the next stage of your journey.

On the next day, you’ll get to explore the vibrant city of Tbilisi, the charming capital of Georgia. Starting with a city tour, you’ll get to know the city’s rich history and culture, visiting the famous landmarks and hidden gems of the city. You’ll walk through the charming streets of the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see the ancient Narikala Fortress, the impressive Metekhi Church, and the charming Abanotubani district, known for its traditional sulfur baths.

The next day, you’ll set off on a scenic drive from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda. Along the way, you’ll make stops to visit some of Georgia’s most iconic and historic sites, including Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, Ananuri, a 17th-century fortress, and Gudauri, a ski resort known for its stunning views of the Caucasus Mountains. In the evening, you’ll visit the Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century church located on a mountaintop and offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area. It’s a great opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the region, and learn about the rich history of Georgia.

After a memorable time in Stepantsminda, you’ll continue your journey, driving from Stepantsminda to Borjomi. Along the way, you’ll make stops to visit some of the most iconic sites in Georgia, including the Uplistsikhe cave complex, an ancient rock-hewn town, Gori, the birthplace of Stalin, and the Stalin Museum. Once you arrive in Borjomi, you’ll take a walk in the Borjomi park and visit the famous thermal waters of Borjomi, known for their healing properties. It’s a great opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in the beautiful Georgian countryside.

The next day, you’ll begin your journey from Borjomi and drive to Akhaltsikhe, where you’ll visit the Rabati Castle, an impressive medieval castle and fortress, rich in history and culture. Afterwards, you’ll drive to Vardzia cave complex, a unique complex of cave dwellings, monasteries and churches, carved into the side of the mountain. You’ll take a small hike to explore the complex and take in the stunning views of the surrounding area. After the hike, you’ll stay in a hotel with a view of Vardzia, a great opportunity to admire the beauty of the complex at night, and reflect on the day’s experiences.

On this day we’ll make our way to Javakheti National Park. The park is a haven for ornithologists and bird enthusiasts, with a wide variety of migratory species passing through the area. You’ll have the opportunity to spot some of the most beautiful and rare birds in the region, such as the white-throated robin and the eastern olivaceous warbler, while surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the park. After this enriching experience, we’ll cross the border into Armenia and arrive in Gyumri, a city known for its rich history and cultural heritage.

Today you’ll embark on a drive from Gyumri to Vanadzor, but not before taking a detour to explore the Haghpat and Sanahin Monasteries. These two ancient monasteries are considered to be architectural masterpieces and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They stand as a testament to the religious and cultural heritage of the region, and you’ll have the opportunity to marvel at their intricate details and rich history. After the visit, you’ll continue on to Vanadzor, a city known for its picturesque setting and charming atmosphere.

Begin your journey from Vanadzor and drive to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, but not before visiting Sevan Lake. The lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world, and it’s known for its beautiful blue water and stunning scenery. You’ll have the opportunity to admire the views and take in the natural beauty of the region. Afterwards, you’ll continue on to Yerevan, where you’ll have the chance to explore the city’s rich history, culture and architecture.

Experience the vibrant city of Yerevan, the charming capital of Armenia. Starting with a city tour, you’ll have a chance to explore Yerevan’s rich history and culture, visiting the famous landmarks and hidden gems of the city. You’ll walk through the charming streets of the Old Town, and see the impressive Republic Square, the Mother Armenia statue and the Cascade complex, a giant stairway that connects the city center with the Victory Park. Along the way, you’ll discover the rich history, culture, and architecture of Yerevan, and gain a deeper understanding of the locals’ customs and traditions.

Amenities & Accommodation

All our accommodations on this trip will be in 3-4* hotels, except in the town of Dedoplistskaro, where we will stay in a family-run boutique hotel. Breakfast will be provided in the hotel, but dinner may be some other restaurant in the vicinity. Lunch is usually at a restaurant on the way to the destination. We always choose locally owned, remarkable places with great cuisine as our stops.

Difficulty: Easy

This is a relaxed adventure trip requiring 3-5 km of walking or hiking each day, usually to explore cultural and historical sights. Some places, such as Vardzia, involve walking up and down steep steps, and “Eagle” Canyon involves hiking up a short trail.

Safety

This itinerary is carefully designed to avoid risky activities and extreme sports. Mostly cultural experiences, historical trips and nature walks, it can be done by seniors as well as young children.

Money

You can use your credit card throughout the trip, but in some small towns and villages you may need to carry some cash. Usually only local currency is accepted in these places, so be sure to have some cash for souvenirs and gifts. Ask your guide in advance when you can withdraw cash for later use.

What to bring with you


This trip is best experienced in spring and fall, which can be both warm and cold. For this reason, we recommend that you bring clothing that can be used in temperatures between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. Make sure you have a comfortable, soft pair of hiking shoes for daily walks and wildlife viewing activities.

In general, if you are in good health and have an active lifestyle, all of our tours are acceptable for you. Easy, Medium, Hard, and Very Hard are the four levels of difficulty that we divide up our tours into. We only presume that you have prepared more thoroughly ahead for the Very Hard. Please get in touch with one of our travel managers if you have any questions so they can reassure you if necessary or, alternatively, help you decide which tour is more suitable for you. Unfortunately, those with disabilities mostly cannot participate in our tours. However, it also depends on the kind of disability, so it’s worth speaking with one of our tour managers about this in advance.
