The Experience

The definitive Georgian cycling journey. This coast-to-coast ride covers over 430 km from the capital Tbilisi to the Black Sea resort of Batumi, crossing three completely distinct landscapes: the semi-arid Kartli plains, the forested Borjomi-Kharagauli highlands, and the subtropical Adjara coast. The single biggest climb — from Borjomi gorge to Bakuriani at 1,700 m — is the tour's centrepiece; the long descent to sea level that follows across the next four days is its reward. Achievable by any regular cyclist. A support vehicle accompanies every stage.

You're Ready If

Regular cyclists comfortable with 50–80 km days on mixed terrain. The Bakuriani climb is the steepest section. A support vehicle accompanies every stage — no rider is left behind.

Minimum age: 14 years

Day by Day

The Journey

Day 1

Tbilisi – Opening Ride to Mtskheta

2–3 hrs35 km+200 m🏨 Hotel

Morning briefing at the start point in central Tbilisi. The first kilometres wind through the old city and across the Mtkvari before the route clears the suburbs onto quiet valley roads heading northwest. A short opening day by design — a chance to settle the group and calibrate the bikes before the real distances begin. Arrive in Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Jvari monastery watching from the ridge above. Overnight in Mtskheta.

Day 2

Mtskheta to Gori – Mtkvari Valley

4–5 hrs65 km+350 m🏨 Hotel

Ride along the Mtkvari River valley on low-traffic back roads through orchards, vineyards, and farming villages. An optional detour to the Uplistsikhe cave city — carved into sandstone cliffs above the river — makes for a striking mid-route stop. A flat, manageable day with the Trialeti ridge as a backdrop. Overnight in Gori.

Day 3

Gori to Borjomi – Into the Gorge

5–6 hrs70 km+620 m🏨 Hotel

Leave the Kartli plain and enter the Borjomi Gorge, one of Georgia's most scenic river valleys. The route follows the Mtkvari upstream as the gorge walls close in and the forest takes over — trading open farmland for pine shade and the sound of fast water. Arrive in Borjomi, Georgia's famous mineral spring spa town, with time to walk the park before dinner. Overnight in Borjomi.

Day 4

Borjomi to Bakuriani – The Big Climb

3–4 hrs35 km+900 m🏨 Hotel

The hardest climbing day of the tour. Leave Borjomi and ascend through dense mixed forest on switchback roads to the highland resort of Bakuriani at 1,700 m. Shorter in distance but relentless in gradient — this is the day where the support vehicle earns its place. From the top, views extend back across the Borjomi Gorge and forward to the Trialeti highlands. Overnight in Bakuriani.

Day 5

Bakuriani to Akhaltsikhe – Long Descent

4–5 hrs60 km+200 m🏨 Hotel

A day that gives back everything the previous day demanded. Leave Bakuriani and descend from the highlands through alpine meadows and pine forest towards the historic town of Akhaltsikhe. The route drops nearly 800 m net over 60 km on mostly smooth surfaces — long sweeping bends and cooling air all the way down. Optional stop at the medieval Rabati fortress in town. Overnight in Akhaltsikhe.

Day 6

Akhaltsikhe to Adigeni – Rural Valleys

3–4 hrs45 km+350 m🏠 Guesthouse

A quieter riding day through rural valleys south of the Trialeti range. Rolling terrain on low-traffic roads through traditional Georgian villages where the pace of life is noticeably unhurried. The landscape shifts subtly as the Adjara highlands begin to assert themselves to the southwest. Overnight in Adigeni.

Day 7

Adigeni to Batumi Foothills – Into Adjara

4–5 hrs65 km+400 m🏠 Guesthouse

Enter the Adjara region properly. The landscape transforms with almost theatrical speed — subtropical vegetation closes in, the air becomes heavier, and forested ridgelines replace the open highlands. The route descends through winding mountain roads with long sweeping bends, trading altitude for warmth with every kilometre. Overnight in the Adjara foothills.

Day 8

Into Batumi – Arrival at the Black Sea

3–4 hrs50 km

Final riding day. Descend to sea level and ride into Batumi along the coast road. The city materialises gradually — first the port cranes, then the glass towers, then the boulevard — before you roll to a stop at the Black Sea shore. Celebration dinner on the waterfront. Return transfer to Tbilisi departs the following morning.

Questions

FAQ

How much cycling experience do I need?+

You should be a regular cyclist comfortable with 50–80 km days on mixed road terrain. You don't need to be a racer — the support vehicle is available at all times and no section is mandatory. The Bakuriani climb on day 4/5 is the hardest point; riders who want to skip it can take the support vehicle for that stretch and rejoin on the descent.

What type of bike is provided?+

A quality aluminium road or gravel bike is included in the price — suited to the mostly paved route with some gravel sections in Adjara. A carbon road bike upgrade and an e-bike option are available as add-ons. You may bring your own bike; contact us in advance to confirm it fits the support vehicle rack.

What is the difference between the 8-day and 10-day?+

Both follow the same Tbilisi–Batumi route. The 10-day adds a full rest day in Borjomi (before the big climb) and an extra riding day through the Adjara highlands via Khulo, giving more time in the subtropical landscape before Batumi. We recommend the 10-day — the Borjomi rest day is genuinely useful, and the Khulo section is one of the most beautiful stretches of the whole route.

Why May–June and September–October?+

The Kartli plain between Tbilisi and Gori becomes very hot in July and August — 35°C+ cycling days are unpleasant and potentially unsafe. May, June, September, and October offer comfortable temperatures across all three landscapes. October brings outstanding autumn colours through the Borjomi and Adjara forests.

Can the route be customised for private groups?+

Yes. Private groups can request custom start dates, adjust daily distances, add or remove stages, or extend into a 12-day format with additional Adjara exploration. Contact us to discuss your group's goals and fitness level.

What is the cancellation policy?+

Full refund up to 14 days before departure. 50% refund between 7–14 days. No refund within 7 days of departure. In the event of extreme weather making the route unsafe, we reschedule at no penalty.
